Actually, he isn't interpreting the Bible literally. He is cherry picking--picking the parts that he wants to use against others and not speaking about the important points like love your neighbor as yourself, don't judge others, help the poor, the widows, the prisoners, and the orphans. He conveniently doesn't mention the things that Jesus taught.
