My Profile

I could only write very little in my bio section of Medium. So, I am writing the long version here.

Where am I coming from?! I must be out of my everlovin’ mind.

Maybe, maybe not.

In my mind, my purpose here is to impart wisdom. My belief is that opening minds and hearts is the most important thing that we can ever do in life.

I have lived 64 years and I have learned a lot. In fact, I have learned more than my share. Much of what I have learned came from very difficult, sometimes violent situations. Other things were pleasant.

I learned about people all over the world from people all over the world. I learned that there are many other cultures with many other viewpoints different from my own. Yet, I learned that we are all one because we are all people. We share our common human traits no matter where we are from.

I also learned that no matter how intelligent, well-read or educated I am, I can learn much from a conversation with someone with Down syndrome or Autism. They are as important to the world as anyone else. Everyone is important in their own way. We are all part of the fabric of humanity. Six degrees of separation really do exist.

Beyond that, I learned to respect myself because I came to understand that no one is above me but only different from me. It doesn’t matter if someone else is rich or famous. Often, that is an impediment to their humanity and their wisdom. They buy everything. Yet, they understand very little of life. They have never been exposed to the seedier side of life. They are bored even though they own everything they ever wanted because they have missed the most important part of life — living life. They wouldn’t give the time of day to people who are important to their intellectual, emotional, or spiritual development. They lack the humility that I consider important for myself and others.

Sheltered people are very similar in this respect. They don’t gain wisdom either because they experience very little adversity. People who have not experienced much in life have not learned much in life. They have no experiences to pull from in relating to other people. They do not develop insight or empathy.

Above all else, I learned that there is God. I can even explain that fact scientifically. My sure knowledge is that God is with all of us even when we don’t know that this is the case. When we ignore God, God doesn’t force Himself(?) on us. We truly are given free will. Yet, if we call on God in times of trouble, God answers our prayers if we truly have faith. Most people who think that they have faith have no idea what truly having faith is. Of course, it really does help to be grateful even when God gives us very small blessings while we aren’t facing troubles. This draws God closer to us. God doesn’t need our thanks but God does like to know that we are paying attention to His(?) presence in our lives.

Does knowing God mean that I can’t get real? No, God gets real. So do I. God has shown me real many, many times. God understands what real is. God understands anything that we are going through. We need to understand anything that anyone else is going through.

I still have much to learn and there is much that I can learn here at Medium but I am happy to share those things that I have already learned. My means of doing so is unconventional. I like to stir emotions because I believe that strong emotions cause people to pay attention and to retain a memory of what they have experienced. There is so much media inundating the lives of people these days that not much seems important. It all runs together as one mashup of extraneous images, audio clips, and information. Most of this is very irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If I seem risqué, crude, or shocking at times, there is a purpose behind it. I want you to think about what I am saying then decide for yourself whether what I am saying is right or wrong.

If one sentence out of all of the sentences in all of my writing helps someone in any way, then I have performed the service that I desire to perform. That is, I would like that one sentence to help someone gain wisdom. Remember that I said that wisdom is the opening of minds and hearts.
