Thank you and many claps. I was going to write about this but from a slightly different perspective. Let me fill in some blanks by explaining the truth of the teachings of Jesus for those who may not know.
Jesus said that the patriarchs made up some rules and that they weren't given to Moses by God. No, the Bible isn't the inerrant word of God. Jesus said so.
John 7:22 "Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath."
Jesus was referring to circumcision of the heart as what is important Deuteronomy 10:16-19, Deuteronomy 30:6, Romans 2:29.
Jesus also spoke against food prohibitions (Mark 7:14-16, Mark 7:19, Matthew 15:11, Matthew 15:16-20, 1 Corinthians 8), offerings and sacrifices (Mark 12:33, Hebrews 9:12, 1 Samuel 15:22, Isaiah 1:11, Joshua 22:25-27, Psalm 40:6, Psalm 51:16) and ritual cleansing (Matthew 15:1-3, Mark 7:1-5, John 3:24-36, John 13:8). This pretty much covers everything in Leviticus. So, Leviticus was not given to Moses by God. It was from the patriarchs--the Pharisees, Sadducees or Lawgivers. Jesus spoke against all of these people especially to say that they had let go of the commands of God and held on to human rules and traditions (Mark 7:5-8, Isaiah 29:13). Jesus also said to love our fellow man (Matthew 22:34-40) who is everyone (Luke 10:25-37) and not to judge others (Matthew 7:1-5, Luke 6:37, John 5:27, John 8:50).
So, it isn't a sin to be gay. It is a sin to be hateful. This isn't just liberal Christianity. This is Christianity. Conservative "Christians" aren't Christians because they aren't followers of Jesus. They don't obey Jesus as He said to do (John 14:23-24, John 10:27, John 10:4). Their human rules go against God. The Apostle John put it this way.
1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
The synopsis of this situation is that evil people who called themselves Christians went into Uganda to teach their hateful beliefs while simultaneously ignoring everything that Jesus taught and commanded.
Matthew 5:19 "Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love.
