To answer that, you need to understand that various denominations cherry pick the Bible for whatever they want it to say. They go against many teachings of Jesus. Jesus taught against some scriptures. He called them the rules of man and they are. The only people who God has anything against are judgmental, cold hearted, greedy, selfish people who are exactly who most people see calling themselves Christians. God is good and God is love. Anything that goes against this isn't coming from God.

1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love.

Jesus said this.

Luke 6:45

45 "A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."

It is fine and even good for you to be curious. True Christians love telling you all about the goodness of God.
